What is Cherish?

Cherish is the digital home for your jewelry. It brings the details, photographs, documents and memories of every piece together, ready whenever you want to revisit them.

What can I keep in Cherish?

You can record an ornament’s name, type, metal, purity, weight, stones and location, then add photographs, documents, memories and the person you may wish to pass it on to.

Where is my information stored?

Cherish uses Firebase, a Google Cloud service, for its backend. Information you add may be securely transmitted to and stored in Google Cloud so Cherish can provide account, storage and sync features.

Is Cherish completely private?

No online service can promise complete privacy. Cherish does not sell your information or use the contents of your collection for advertising. We use account and security controls to protect access, while Firebase and Google Cloud process data needed to operate the service.

Can I use Cherish on more than one device?

When account sync is available and enabled, your saved collection can follow you across supported devices signed in to your account.

Cherish is the digital home for your jewellery. This policy explains, in plain language, what information Cherish uses, where it is kept and how we look after it. We wrote it to be read, not skimmed past.

1. What this policy covers

This policy applies to the Cherish mobile app and to this website. It describes how we handle your personal data when you catalogue your pieces, create an account, or write to us. Cherish is operated from India, and this policy is written to sit alongside applicable law, including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

2. What Cherish stores for you

Your catalogue may include piece names, categories, metals, purities, weights, stones, notes, memories, locations and beneficiaries, along with photos and documents such as invoices, purity certificates and valuation reports. This is the content you create, and it is yours. We treat it as private and never read it to build a profile of you.

3. Information we collect

If you create an account, we collect details such as your name and email address to identify you and help you recover access. To keep Cherish reliable, we may collect basic diagnostic information such as app version, device model and crash reports. When you use the Write to us form on this website, we collect the email address, category and message you provide so we can reply.

4. How we use your information

We use your information only to provide, secure, maintain and support Cherish: to run your account and sync, to keep the service working, to answer the messages you send us, and to meet legal obligations. We do not use it for anything you would not expect from a cataloguing app.

5. What we never do

We do not sell your data. We do not use the contents of your collection for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles about you. We do not run third-party ad networks or tracking scripts on this website.

6. Where your information is stored

Cherish uses Firebase, a Google Cloud service, for backend features such as accounts, storage and sync, so information you add may be transmitted to and stored on Google Cloud. This means Cherish is not an entirely offline or completely private service. Messages you send through the website's Write to us form are stored with our hosting provider so our team can respond. Access to all of this is protected through account and security controls.

7. Sharing, only when you choose

Sharing a piece — for example, with a family member or a beneficiary — happens only when you choose to share it, and only the details you choose to include are shared. We do not share your catalogue with anyone else, except with the service providers above who process data on our behalf, or where the law requires it.

8. Camera, photos and files

Cherish asks for camera and photo permissions only so you can photograph pieces and attach documents. These permissions are used at the moment you use the feature and for nothing else. You can withdraw them at any time in your device settings.

9. How long we keep it

We keep your catalogue and account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise the associated personal data within a reasonable period, unless we are required to keep some of it to meet a legal obligation. Messages sent through the Write to us form are kept only as long as needed to handle your query and our records of it.

10. Keeping your information secure

We use account controls, access restrictions and encryption in transit to protect your information, and we rely on the security of our providers, Google Cloud among them. No online service can promise perfect security, so we also encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to keep your device protected.

11. Your rights and choices

You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, and you can withdraw a consent you have given. Deleting the app does not by itself delete information held in the backend, so use the in-app account deletion option where available, or ask us for help. The quickest way to make any of these requests, or to raise a concern, is the Write to us form — it keeps every request in one place so nothing is lost, and we respond to all of them.

12. Children

Cherish is intended for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from a child without verifiable consent from a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us information, reach us through the Write to us form and we will remove it.

13. Storage outside India

Because Cherish relies on Google Cloud, your information may be processed on servers located outside India. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps for it to remain protected to the standard described in this policy.

14. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and note the change in the app. Material changes will be announced before they take effect.

These terms are the agreement between you and Cherish when you use the app or this website. We have kept them short and honest.

1. The service

Cherish is a personal cataloguing app for jewellery and precious belongings. It helps you record, organise and pass on details about pieces you own. Using the app or this website means you accept these terms.

2. Who can use Cherish

You may use Cherish only if you can form a binding contract under the laws of India. If you are under 18, you may use it only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms on your behalf.

3. Your content

Everything you add to Cherish — names, details, photos, documents, notes, memories — remains yours. You grant us only the limited technical permission needed to store, back up and display that content to you, and to people you explicitly choose to share it with. You are responsible for having the right to record and store what you add.

4. Not advice, not a valuation

Cherish records the information you enter. It is not an appraisal, valuation, insurance or investment service, and nothing in the app or on this site is financial, legal, tax or insurance advice. For valuations or coverage, consult a certified appraiser or your insurer.

5. Acceptable use

Use Cherish only for lawful purposes and only to catalogue items you own or are authorised to record. Do not attempt to break, probe or overload the service, or to access another person's collection.

6. Your account

Keep your credentials safe; actions taken with your account are your responsibility. Tell us promptly, through the Write to us form, if you believe your account has been compromised.

7. Our intellectual property

The Cherish name, wordmark, design, written content and software are ours. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app; they do not transfer any ownership in it.

8. Services we rely on

Cherish uses trusted third-party services, including Firebase and Google Cloud, to operate. Their availability and their own terms can affect the service, and we are not responsible for the acts or omissions of these providers beyond our own reasonable control.

9. Availability and changes

We work hard to keep Cherish available, but the service is provided "as is" and may occasionally be interrupted, updated or changed. We recommend keeping backups turned on for anything you cannot afford to lose. We may update these terms, and material changes will be noted with a new effective date.

10. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cherish is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including loss of data where backup was available and not enabled. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Ending things

You can stop using Cherish and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end accounts that break these terms, and we will tell you why when we do.

12. Governing law and how to reach us

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India will have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you have a question about them, please use the Write to us form — it is the one place we handle every enquiry, and it keeps our replies quick and consistent.

Any values, weights, purities, hallmarks or descriptions in your catalogue are the information you or others recorded, not figures checked or endorsed by Cherish. For an authoritative valuation, please consult a certified appraiser.

2. Not professional advice

Nothing in the app or on this website is financial, investment, insurance, tax or legal advice, and it should not be relied on as such. Decisions about buying, selling, insuring or inheriting valuables are yours to make, ideally with a qualified professional.

3. Educational content

The Gemcyclopedia and any other reference material we publish are provided for general interest and education. We work to keep them accurate, but they may contain errors or become out of date, and they are no substitute for expert assessment of a specific piece.

4. Your records are your responsibility

The accuracy and completeness of your catalogue depend on what you enter. Cherish is a tool for keeping those details together; it is not a guarantee of their correctness, nor a security system for the physical items themselves.

5. Backups and data

We recommend keeping backups turned on for anything you cannot afford to lose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cherish is not responsible for loss of data where a backup was available and not enabled.

6. Links to other services

Where Cherish links to a store, provider or other website, we do not control that destination and are not responsible for its content or practices. Their terms and policies are their own.

This website is built to be quiet. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not run third-party analytics or tracking scripts. This page explains the little that we do use.

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small files a website can store in your browser. "Similar technologies" include things like local storage that work in much the same way. Together they let a site remember information between page loads.

2. What this website uses

We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not profile you. The only browser storage this site may use is strictly functional — for example, storage our contact-form provider needs so the Write to us form can work securely. Your choice of light or dark appearance follows your device's own setting and is not tracked by us.

3. Third-party services

To load our typefaces we use Google Fonts, which serves the font files and may receive standard request information such as your IP address in the process; it does not set advertising cookies for this site. Messages you send through the Write to us form are handled by our hosting provider so we can reply. The Cherish app itself relies on Firebase and Google Cloud, as described in our Privacy Policy.

4. Your choices

You can block or clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings at any time. Because we only use functional storage, blocking it will not remove any advertising — but it may stop the Write to us form from working correctly.

5. Changes

If we ever start using cookies for anything beyond the essentials described here, we will update this page and its date first.
